Informatics and Knowledge Management Academy (IKMAC)

The Informatics and Knowledge Management Academy (IKMAC) is a wing of the Centre for Informatics Knowledge Management and Knowledge Economy (CIKMKE). CIKMKE focuses on training and research rather than Knowledge Management activities as outlined in the goals and objectives of the founding document. In view of this deviation from the original plan, it was decided by the CEO to un-bundle these activities. 

Now Knowledge Management training, education and research and other kinds of research as commissioned by different institutions will be conducted by IKMAC. SANCIKMKE and IKMAC are in the same building and are under leadership of the same Chief Executive Director.

IKMAC collaborates with the JT Frank Global Certificate in Knowledge Management Academy (GCIKM) a Malaysian organization. IKMAC offers Knowledge Management (KM) courses in collaboration with GCIKM or independently depending on the arrangement that is made from time to time.

Research, monitoring and evaluation in Knowledge Management course

 

This course covers the basic concepts of research, data analysis, problem-based approaches, KM research and implementation, evaluative research dynamics, focus the evaluation, delineate objectives, selection of variables for evaluative research, developing criteria for.

 

Managing government, organisational information and legal issues

This course runs across 2 days. We are in the Information Age, every work that we do deals with information in different ways.  We need to ensure that we do possess the skills and competencies that are needed in the Information Age.  Developed countries have moved over Information Age to the Knowledge Age and this is the subject that is dealt with in the following modules.

The ability to manage and exploit the data information is key in determining success or failure of organizations in the future.  As people use Internet, e-mails and other electronic equipment the more organizations and individuals are facing risks of litigations.

Information services and models

More and more people are going to be involved in information services of one way or another. More employment is going to be in this area as well in the future. Information services businesses are going to be viable as we move and pass the Information Age.

It becomes necessary that those who are in the filed already and aspiring to do so must learn about issues of information services and how to build business on information services.
 

Also, competition on which organization is providing useful and relevant information is going to be strong.  Therefore, for organizations to survive must learn the game and be competitive, they can do this through people who are employed in these services. 

Information trade and information procurement issues are knocking at our doors everyday.  Some countries procure organizational information of organizations in other countries without any one noticing it. Even if one can notice if there are no procurement policies and information trade policies, some countries will lose out in a big way.  Therefore, protect your organization by knowing all about these matters.

Why people should attend?
Practitioners in the area of library services and management will continue to handle both types of libraries.   For many rural environment and other institutions there are no library services of any kind.

The government in South Africa in its endeavor towards information society, knowledge society and knowledge economy is pushing for the establishment of these facilities for all our communities.

This endeavor needs people with knowledge of both kinds of library services.  In the knowledge Age library services has changed from the traditional library services. Therefore, practitioners and aspiring people need to know about new ways of conducting the same service differently.
